Up until the last year, the concept of EQG was just an idea at the Munich Motor show, which is going to become a dedicated electric model in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Mercedes has shortly begun the durability tests on this new model EQG EV SUV, which is widely based on a G-class off-roader and has shared a bit of information about it in public.

The CEO, Emmerich Schiller said that Mercedes Benz EQG will also act as a technological spearhead for the sub-brand.

This new model will be manufactured in Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria, and is been made on a modified version of the steel ladder frame along with internal combustion engine models. Unlike the other Mercedes Benz models, it has no front luggage compartment or trunk. But still, EQG will retain some of the characteristics like the square-rigged exterior styling as other existing G-Class models. With this EQG will be offered with many small but unique detailing on the standard body panels. It will also include a new-look front bumper and a blanked-off grille.

The charging cable will be placed on the sideways opening tailgate which will be placed in a lockable box replacing the spare tire.

It is not disclosing the exact figures of power and torque for its latest electric model. But many car news sites and the company hinted that it is going to use different outputs for different models. According to the manufacturers, this car will match the performance of the Mercedes-AMG G63 4Matic.

EQG will come with some extra off-road driving modes along with the on-road driving modes, Eco, Comfort, and Sports along with Trail, Rock, and Sand. With this, there is another new feature which is the G-Turn function, which is been activated by a dashboard button, which makes the motors on one side turn the wheels forward, and on the opposite side will be riding in a reverse pattern. This allows the car to take a turn of 360 degrees. With the help of shift pads placed on the steering wheel, The driver can rotate The car either from the left or right side.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz is not quite ready to reveal all the information related to the car like the ground clearance, departure, break-over angles, and many more but still, they are hinting that this new model will be on par and even outclass many of its models made earlier.
