Tata Motors has teased the debut of the Altroz CNG on April 19 in a teaser video. The Altroz, which will debut at the Auto Expo 2023 alongside the Punch’s CNG variant, will be the third model in the brand’s lineup to come with a factory-installed CNG kit, following the Tiago and Tigor.

The same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine that powers the petrol and CNG versions of the Altroz produces 86 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque in the petrol mode and 77 horsepower and 97 Nm in the CNG mode. Most likely, this device will only be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Altroz can also start immediately in CNG mode, a feature none of its competitors provide, much like the Tiago and Tigor CNG. We anticipate that the Altroz will deliver a similar fuel economy to that of the Tiago and Tigor CNG, which is 26.49 km/kg.

With the exception of the installation of the ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailboard, the exterior of the Altroz CNG will remain unchanged. The new dual-cylinder setup in the boot is the premium hatchback’s most distinctive feature, though. Contrary to the enormous 60-litre tank that restricts boot room in many CNG versions, the new twin cylinders, which have a capacity of 30 litres each, have been installed beneath the floor of the boot to allow for more storage.

Similar to the Tiago and Tigor CNG, it can be expected that the Altroz will be offered in XM, XZ and the top-spec XZ+ trims and come equipped with features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a voice-activated sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, an engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver’s seat, leatherette seats, rear AC vents and a front centre armrest.

The price of the Altroz CNG is anticipated to be Rs 90,000 higher than that of its petrol manual version, which is currently priced in India between Rs 6.45 lakh and Rs 9.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Altroz will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza CNG when it goes on sale as the third premium hatchback with a CNG powerplant option.
